37–year old Italian banker wins 120,000 Euros by qualifying online with PokerStars – posted 08.06.09
An Italian banker has made the history books today by becoming the first PokerStars.it Italian Poker Tour (IPT) champion.
Stefano Puccilli, 37, played poker for a gruelling 14 hours in San Remo tonight to claim the grand prize of 120,000 Euros and the title of IPT San Remo champion.
His heads up opponent was fellow PokerStars Qualifier Vittorio Meraviglia who finished 2nd for 75,000 Euros.
The final action was truly exciting. An all-in call by Vittorio with A-3 was met by Puccilli who revealed 8d-8c, giving Puccilli a massive advantage (70%) pre-flop. However, the flop ran Jc-Ah-Qc, which not only paired Vittorio’s A, but made Puccilli a massive underdog (10%).
A 9d on the turn opened the possibility of a straight to the queen for Puccilli but only a 10 or 8 (13%) could now save him.
And then the miracle: the 10s appeared on the river and the game was Puccilli’s.

Stefano has only been playing poker for four years and learned the game after watching televised poker with friends. He eventually outgrew games with friends and started playing with PokerStars, where he qualified on a satellite that led him to San Remo and glory.
The inaugural event here at San Remo has continued the huge success of PokerStars’ brand of tours. A total of 255 players attended IPT San Remo, showcasing the huge interest in poker in the region and generating a prize pool of 494,700 Euros.
The 2nd IPT event has been confirmed for July 30 - August 2 in Venice, Italy at the Venice Casino. The buy-in will be 2,000+200 Euros with more events to be confirmed soon.
